Exciting News!

I have some very exciting news that I want to share with you all...

So, most of you may know that one of my greatest passions is Photography. I found my greatest photographic inspiration and learning through my time living in Paris and traveling through Europe last fall, and I found myself deeply impacted by my photography professor, James Nachtwey (War Photographer), and all of the faces across Europe.

A few months after arriving from Paris, I submit four photos from my portfolio of photos from Europe into a prestigious annual international photography competition hosted by Photographer's Forum magazine , blindly hoping, but not expecting, to hear back from the magazine months later. I figured that a competition like this one (huge, international, very popular, and with more than $2,000 at stake for the 1st place winner) would be way out of my league, but I gave it a shot anyway.

Well, as you may have guessed by now, I heard back from Photographer's Forum magazine a few days ago, and guess what?..... One of my photos was selected as a finalist in the competition, and as a result, this photo will be published (along with the other finalists - 100 of them, I believe, out of more than 3,400 entries) in this years "Best of Photography 2010" ...!!!!

Needless to say, I almost fell over when I read the letter in the mail. And to think I almost dismissed the envelope as junk mail! So now, my photo will be [hopefully] seen by whomever comes in contact with this book - generally photographers, artists, design schools (possibly my school will buy a copy??) and designers are the ones to buy this book, so this means lots of great exposure for everyone!

I am so excited, and still slightly in shock. Is this really happening??

I just wanted to share this news with everyone, and perhaps you can look forward to seeing my photo in that book in a few months. Meanwhile, for those of you who are curious to know which photo, I may consider posting it online somewhere, sometime, so when that happens, I'll let you know so you can check it out.

PS: Thanks to everyone for reading and supporting this blog! It will be almost 1 year since I wrote my first post. Crazy. I had just moved to Paris and I had no idea what was yet to come... and here I am now.
Thank you all, for those few and strong who visit here from time to time. Really, thank you.

Congratulations, Cat! This is well deserved, and good news for us all. Now we'll be able to see your photos in print, in addition to their appearance on your fashion designs! Reason enough to come back from the Alaskan wilderness, I hope? Cheers, Housefield
